Pol.Gen. Surachet Hakpal, Deputy Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police and the Director of RTP’s Child Woman Protection, Anti-human Trafficking, and Fishery Industry Center, joined Thai delegates in the Thai-Cambodia bilateral meeting, held in Siem Reap from 18-19 January 2023, to discuss on developing the joint action plan following the SOP on assistance of victims of trafficking. With IOM’s facilitation, the Thai team, led by Mr. Pravit Roykaew, a public prosecutor and the Deputy Director-General of the Department of Trafficking in Persons Litigation, comprised of representatives from the Royal Thai Police, the Ministry of Justice, Department of Provincial Administration, Ministry of Labor, Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, and NGOs, met with Cambodian delegates led by Mr.Chou Bun Eng, General Director of Cambodian Ministry of Interior and Permanent Vice-Chairperson of the National Committee to Counter Trafficking in persons.
In this meeting, Pol.Gen. Surachet showcased a significant increase of human trafficking cases prosecuted in Thailand and examples of success as a result of an integration of Royal Thai Police with other stakeholders to assist and protect the victims. He also thanked Cambodian authority for cooperation in facilitating repatriation of more than 1,105 Thais who were victimized by call-center gangs last year.
On 19 January 2023, the delegates from both countries will mutually develop the 3-year joint action plan imposing procedures complied with the Standard Operating Procedures on assistance of victims of trafficking, signed on 25 August 2022. The joint action plan will emphasize on facilitating repatriation and integrating victims of human trafficking, transferring evidences for prosecution, and trainings for officers in line with universal standards.
